A Prayer of Thanksgiving
Dear God,
Every year when the Thanksgiving season rolls around, I recite my blessings and recall the abundance you pour into my life.
If I thanked you for every single gift as it appeared, my dialogue with you would have no end, for you give so generously, in even the simplest things. But sometimes I fail to show my gratitude.
Perhaps I am preoccupied or too focused on life's trials, or maybe I have grown spoiled to all your blessings and don't always notice them. Sometimes, however, I simply fear.
I fear that if I delight in your bounty or rejoice in your provision, it will be snatched away from me. The losses of life have taught me to fear being too joyful and to be wary of hoping too deeply. I am sorry.
Remind me that fear does not come from you. Invite me to taste of your goodness, cherish each blessing, and turn to you in lavish praise and joyful thanksgiving.
Thank you for bringing even more good than I am able to see.
Amen.
