I'm Giving Up My Questions

Day 24 of Lenten Devotional

Guest Post by Tracy Higgins, South Central Fellowship

Isaiah 66:1-2 Thus says the Lord; “Heaven is My throne, and the earth is My footstool. Where is the house that you will build Me? And where is the place of My rest? For all those things My hand has made, and all those things exist,” says the Lord. “ But on this one will I look:
On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and who trembles at My word.”

Sometimes the questions come. The hard ones...Why? How long? What can I do? All these questions..and sometimes no answers. As we see in Isaiah...He is the great I AM...Sometimes the Lord is silent...or so it seems. Sometimes there are no explanations...nor does He have to give us one. His ways are not our ways.

But His words to us...His love letter to us says, "But on this ONE will I look: on HIM who is poor and of a contrite spirit and who trembles at my Word."He may not speak in the ways we think He should...but He hears OUR hearts when we speak...when we whisper...when we groan because words won't do. He not only hears, He sees. The Lord bends His ear to the BROKENHEARTED. And He acts on our behalf. We may not always get the answers we want...but He comes close..He is near..He is with us.

Isaiah 65:24 "It shall come to pass that before they call, I will answer, and while they are still speaking, I will hear." Before we even call on Him, He knows. He has sent the Comforter to guide and strengthen...to comfort. And Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father and intercedes for us. Our tears are bottled, and our prayers are as incense before Him. If the trials bring us to our knees before Him in pure dependence because we have nowhere else to go, then that's when we are changed from self-reliance to reliance on the only One we can turn to. And that is the ultimate goal...to draw close to the One who will bring us back to Himself one day, no matter what happens here on this earth...No matter the questions, we are just passing through. And one day, when we bow before Him, we will say, "Worthy, worthy, worthy, worthy is the Lamb. You alone are worthy. You were worth all, Jesus."

Father, we have so many questions but today I don't want to ask them. I just want to sit at your feet and rest, to climb up in your lap and stay a while. We will have answers one day, but help me to be content not knowing what those are today. As I know, you turn all things into our good and your glory. Amen.
