I Give Up Pride
Day 20 of Lenten Devotional SeriesGuest Post by Missy Cunningham, Broadway United Methodist Church
Everyone likes to receive praise. It's natural. When that need for praise becomes your motivation, that is the issue. When praise becomes the reason you want to serve more, sing more, be seen in church more, play music more...When all of that praise becomes about you, that's when pride sneaks in. Pride can be a huge stumbling block. No matter the good things you do, Satan can use them to his advantage. He is the one who drives pride and arrogance. So he tells us what a good job we've done...Oh yeah, that's sneaky.
Every day I fight pride. I have to ask God to remove those feelings of superiority that Satan has put in my heart. I ask that He keeps humility a real thing and to keep my heart and intentions pure. I always thank Him for the ability to serve and recognize that I could do nothing outside of Him.
Lord, make me always your humble servant. Help me to seek your ways, not mine. Place me where I will serve you best. Make me invisible so others can see you. Continue to show me Your path for me and give me wisdom to be able to recognize it. Amen.
