I'm Adding Something Positive
Day 23 of Lenten Devotional SeriesGuest Post by Donna Morrow, The Creek Church
Matthew 25:35-40 'For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least
of these my brothers, you did it to me.'
Lent is usually observed by letting go of something such as chocolate, cola's, smoking, gossiping, fear, hate, jealousy, etc. While sitting on the sofa watching the news today I had a random thought. What if each and every person who's falling into the trap of allowing negativity and depression, caused by the bad things around us, decided to take up something positive? What if we all chose to find one person who truly needs a friend or one who is going through some tragedy and take them in? I don't mean necessarily taking them into our home, but taking them into our heart and actively working through the hurt and pain in their life? We all know at least one. It's easy to lift up a prayer for the oppressed but it's more difficult to give them something they really need by taking their pain and making it our own. I'm challenging myself to be better at helping those who are hurting and in need. Will you do the same?
Father, I ask you to give me the strength, courage and wisdom to not only be a friend to those in need, but to actually do what you would do to fill their needs. Amen.
