I Give Up Worry
2nd Day of Lent Devotional Series
Guest Post by: Marsha Clayton, Broadway United Methodist Church
Psalm 55:22
Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you. He will never let the righteous be shaken.
If I were to give up one thing for Lent it would be WORRY! When I think of the chaos in our world today I can become really troubled. The world looks so big and the problems so complex that there are times when I get very scared. Other times I clutter up my thoughts by worrying over things that "might" happen. I think of the saying by Mark Twain, "I've had a lot of worries in my life, most of which never happened!"
As God's children we can turn our worries over to Someone who has everything under perfect control. The prophet Isaiah reminds us that God brings out the stars and calls them by name. And just as He knows the stars by name, He knows us individually and personally. So this Lenten season when I am inclined to worry I will turn that worry over to the Lord. He is never too tired to pay attention to us. He has all wisdom and power and loves to use it on our behalf. Our Heavenly Father who directs the stars has His loving arms around us. Worry ends when Faith begins!
Father, thank you for your faithfulness to us. Help us to remember that you have promised to never leave us to face difficulties alone. Help us to replace our worry with faith in you.We ask in your precious name, Amen.
