Why I Don't Give Up For Lent

7th Day of Lenten Devotional Series
Guest Post by: Sally Jackson, Holy Spirit Catholic Church

Hebrews 6:10 God is not unjust; He will not forget your work and the love you have shown Him as you have helped His people and continue to help them.

During this season of Lent, I am not giving up anything. Instead, I am going out of my way to do things to help others. First, I am going to make amends with anyone I have fallen out of touch with. I have learned from suffering great losses that life is too short to hold grudges and lose touch with people from your past. I plan to reach out to others with cards, letters, phone calls, and, when possible, in person. You never know when that person will be gone and you won't have another chance to communicate with them.

Second, I am working on purging my belongings so I can donate what I don't need to St. Vincent de Paul. Third, I am looking for opportunities to "pay it forward" in any way I can. Fourth, and the most important, I am having Masses said for the people in my life who are physically or mentally sick, and praying for myself to let go of worries and fears and let God do whatever He thinks is best for my life.

Psalm 34:4 I sought the Lord, and He answered me. He delivered me from all my fears.
